I am just wondering who pays for the bridesmaids dresses? Am I responsible for that as well or do they each pay for their own dress. I have a specific dress that I want all of them to wear because I want everything to be very uniform. I have looked on a lot of sites and have got mixed responses. The majority of the people say that the bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, shoes and jewelry. I just wanted to get more opinions on that.

The dresses that I am asking my bridesmaids to have are going to be about $250.00. Is this too much to ask of? I know there are a few people that would struggle with the money situation. In that case, what do I do?

I actually had the same question about a month ago. All the information I gathered basically said that the bridesmaids do pay for their dresses. The dress amount you are asking for falls in the "normal" range of dress prices, but on the highest end. If you have people in your wedding party that cannot afford these dresses, you can either try finding an equivalent of the dress at a cheaper price or even allowing them to find something similar. Those are really the only two options I see.

I know a woman that paid for all her bridesmaids dresses because she thought it was customary to do so. She does not have all the money in the world to do this and ended up cutting costs in others parts of her wedding to make sure she could afford all the dresses!

So yes, the bridesmaids do pay for their own dresses. If your bridesmaids have a problem affording it, they will more than likely let you know or figure out a way to make it work. They are the closest women to you and they understand how important this day is. I once was part of a wedding and paid $400.00 for my dress. Most of the time, they will find a way.
