Wedding Dress Alterations: Countless Possibilities

Brides typically go to three or four fittings for their wedding dress. During these fittings, alterations are made. When scheduling your fittings, it is best to schedule a total of two to three months in fitting and alteration time. Make sure your last fitting is not too far out from the wedding date nor too close to it or you could end up with some problems.
Whether you are altering your mothers wedding gown to wear at your special event, visiting a local shop or even a high end boutique, your gown will need some form of altering to fit your body perfectly. Seamstresses are there to open up hems, add embellishment, changing fabric layout and more. You can take an ordinary wedding gown from a shop and alter the wedding dress to fit your personal taste.
If you are looking to alter your dress significantly, meaning outside the normal let outs, bring inís or hems, it is suggested that you buy a dress that it larger than the normal size you wear. If you choose a size that is smaller, it makes it more difficult to alter. Choosing a size bigger allows for the seamstress that is working on your wedding dress alterations more fabric to work with. This is especially true for fabrics such as satin. When satin is let out, you run the risk of seeing the holes it leaves behind.
Remember, if you are looking for some serious wedding dress alterations, you need to allot for it in your wedding budget and your time schedule.
